Is membership voluntary?

Yes, currently in the retail and home improvement sector providing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to your customer is optional, however it is strongly encouraged and businesses have a responsibility to signpost towards an ADR body in the event of an unresolved dispute whether they are willing to use it or not.

It’s also worth noting that courts can impose sanctions against either party should they unreasonably refuse to consider ADR prior to going to court.
