Government backs new Approved Code for the Home Improvement Sector
The Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman (FHIO) welcomes Government support for the development of an Approved Code for the Home Improvement Sector.
The Approved Code Scheme is being developed by FHIO in partnership with the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) and Trusted Payments; helping to raise standards across the sector, build consumer confidence and make it easier for consumers to identify trusted traders.
The Government has announced that the Approved Code will be live with its first retailers by the end of September and fully operational by December 2026. FHIO plans to launch the Code during the autumn.
Judith Turner, Deputy Chief Ombudsman at the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman, said:
“The Furniture and Home Improvement Ombudsman (FHIO) welcomes Government support in the development of an Approved Code for the Home Improvement Sector. The Approved Code Scheme delivered by FHIO, in partnership with the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, represents a gold standard.
“We are pleased that Government is recognising the implementation of this code. It is vital in building trust in the sector and helping consumers to identify trusted traders who are committed to increasing consumer confidence and resolving disputes fairly and impartially via an established and approved Ombudsman scheme.”
The Approved Code will support reputable businesses by providing a recognised way to demonstrate their commitment to higher standards of customer service, transparency and dispute resolution.
